The White House spokesman, Jay Carney, on Wednesday in Washington said the US President, Barack Obama, would host an African Summit in Washington between August 5 and 6.
Carney said the summit would strengthen trade and investment between the US and the continent and also highlight the US’s commitment to security and democracy in Africa.
PANA reports that the summit would build on the progress made since the President’s trip to Africa last summer.
It would also advance the administration’s focus on trade and investment in Africa and highlight America’s commitment to Africa’s security, its democratic development and its people.
Carney said even though it was not yet clear which African leaders would be invited to the summit, President Obama was looking forward to welcoming leaders from across the African continent to the summit.
He said the Summit will build on progress made since Obama visited three African countries in 2013 – Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania.
