A Part 3 student of the Department of Microbiology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, Kayode Akorede Omotola, has slumped and died while playing football on Friday.
The university announced this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Biodun Olarewaju.
The statement said the student was playing football with his colleagues when he suddenly slumped.
According to available information, the football match was among freshers in the school and started as early as 9am.
Omotola was said to have been rushed to the university’s Health Centre when he slumped but was confirmed dead on arrival.
The statement by Olanrewaju on Saturday added: “The management hereby commiserates with the parents, family, classmates, colleagues and the entire university community over this irreparable loss.
“And may the good Lord grant us all the fortitude to bear the loss.”
