The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation on Tuesday said that it still lacked the means to participate at the upcoming Qoros 2015 World Table Tennis Championships in Suzhou, China.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the competition is slated to hold from April 26 to May 3.
The NTTF’s Technical Director, Anderson Bankole, told the NAN in Lagos that the task of raising the required funds for the trip was still ongoing.
Bankole said: “We are still expecting to receive funds to facilitate our players’ participation at the tournament.
“It is very important that they attend because it will improve their world rankings.”
Bankole, who is also an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said the federation had yet to get a response from the National Sports Commission from an earlier appeal for funds.
He said: “If we hear positively from the NSC, definitely our players will attend.
“And even if we don’t, we will strive to ensure that our players partake in it.
“The federation will do all within its reach for the players to participate in the tournament in China.”
NAN reports that Nigeria would be represented by four male and three female players at the tournament.
The male players are Aruna Quadri, Segun Toriola, Onaolapo Ojo and Kazeem Makanjuola.
The female players are Edem Offiong, Janet Friday and Funke Oshonaike.
