The Coordinator of the National Teachers Institute in Kebbi State, Alhaji Salman Maiwada, on Tuesday said the institute would start awarding degree as from March.
Maiwada told the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin-Kebbi that the degree programme would include Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Art in Education.
NAN reports that the six degree programmes were Mathematics, English, Physical and Health Education, Social Studies and Integrated Science.
The NTI coordinator said that the admission was in progress, adding that the academic programmes would commence at the Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi as a centre.
He said that the institute introduced the degree programmes to increase access to higher education, expand the scope of teachers’ qualification, bridge the gap among qualified and non-qualified teachers.
Maiwada said the National Certificate of Education, the Post-Graduate Diploma in Education and Advanced Diploma in Education programmes had commenced at the nine designated study centres in the state.
He urged qualified applicants to seek admission into the new programmes and assured that updated course materials and qualitative teaching and learning environment would be provided.
Maiwada said NTI management was poised to transform the institute, especially as the best distance learning institute in Africa in line with the vision of the founders.
