Turnover of shares traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Thursday appreciated by 122 per cent as the market indices maintained the upward movement.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that investors traded 1.09 billion shares worth N6.89 billion in 6,210 deals.
This was in contrast to the 489.13 billion shares valued at N5.58 billion traded in 6,609 deals on Wednesday.
The market capitalisation rose by N19 billion to close at N12.62 trillion from the N12.60 trillion posted on Wednesday.
The All-Share Index also grew by 56.88 points or 0.14 per cent to close at 39,510.11 against the 39,453.23 recorded on Wednesday.
Market analysts attributed the persistent growth of the market to improved 2013 first quarter results announced by some companies and expectations of better half years results.
Nestle topped the gainers’ chart with N6.20 to close at N1, 075 per share.
CAP followed with a gain of N4.95 to close at N54.45, while Okomu Oil appreciated by N4.10 to close at N49.10 per share.
Presco gained N3 to close at N33, while UACN chalked up N2.15 to close at N60.15 per share.
On the other hand, Mobil Oil led the price losers by N8 to close at N110 per share.
Guinness lost N1.95 to close at N277.05, while Dangote Cement dipped by N1.51 to close at N208.49 per share.
FBN Holdings dropped 40k to close at N18.40, while Julius Berger declined by 39k to close at N55.55 per share.
NAN reports that Transcorp drove the activities chart, accounting for 683.92 million shares worth N35.73 million.
It was trailed by ETI which accounted for 43.07 million shares valued at N689.13 million, while investors staked N876.27 million on 39.09 million shares of Zenith Bank.
