Five people including two serving Army officers have been arrested with over 164 jerry cans filled with petroleum product.
The commandant, Plateau state of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Vincent Bature paraded them before newsmen on Thursday.
According to him, the suspected soldiers have since been handed over to their department for court marshal.
Bature recalled that the community alerted them that some people were seen harking petroleum pipeline along Gurumji and “We immediately deployed our men on duty to do a thorough check on the area.
“We later received calls by my men that they have been arrested and two uniform men and handed them to STF for action.
He also appealed to the affected community heads that they should ensure that they check activities of vandals in Tariya, Gurun by reporting to the appropriate authority.
According to him, the suspects would soon appear in court or be sent back to their office for further investigation
He said owning to rampant cases of petroleum pipeline vandalism, they organized another round of awareness campaign through the community leaders which has helped them in reducing criminals.
The commandant added his men arrested the culprit and handed them over to the Special Task force (STF)
He described the act of stealing public property as an act of criminality perpetrated by some greedy and selfish people.
