The Edo Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested four suspects for allegedly impersonating members of the corps.
Makinde Ayinla, Commandant of the corps in Edo, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin on Monday.
Ayinla said the suspects were arrested at the Ekenwa axis of Benin on the road to Gelegele, a riverine community where the Edo Government was proposing to set up a sea port.
Ayinla, who said the suspects were arrested based on intelligence, added that the suspects were used to mounting illegal road blocks in the area and exhorting monies from unsuspecting truck drivers.
He said the suspects would be taken to court on completion of investigation into the matter.
The commandant warned those in the habit of impersonating men of the corps in exhorting monies illegally from members of the public to desist from the illegal act.
He also warned members of the public, especially truck drivers, to report any person wearing the corps uniform who demanded money from them.
