As part of efforts to checkmate the discrepancies in the supply of petroleum products, the Niger State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended four fuel ladened tankers in Minna for diverting petroleum products.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Philip Ayuba, said his men arrested the drivers who were driving out of Minna to divert petroleum products meant for stations in Minna.
According to Ayuba: “After we got directives from the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachukwu, and our Commandant to ensure at least one of our men follow every tanker until the products are offloaded, we sprung into action and we arrested the tankers at about 1:30am.
“We ensured they returned the products to the filling stations.
“Along with the Department of Petroleum Resources, we are enforcing the reversal of the increased price to the government’s regulated price.”
One of the defaulting tanker drivers, Maikori Iliya, while regretting his actions, told our Correspondent that the reason why he did not offload and decided to leave Minna was because he did not have the way bill.
The four tankers, which included one branded NNPC truck, were compelled to offload the products at the Southgate, Garima, Conoil at Chanchaga and NNPC mega filling stations.
Ayuba further urged other security agencies in the state to join hands with the NSCDC and shun every form of sabotage so as to ameliorate the sufferings of the people.
