The President, Nigeria Referees Association, Tade Azeez, on Monday in Kano said that the association would no longer send referees to Jos or any other match venue that attacked match officials.
Azeez said this during the decoration of 29 FIFA badged-referees by Nigeria Football Federation.
He said: “NRA will no longer send referees to Jos or any other match venue that attacked match officials. They should just look for another venue.”
The president had expressed displeasure over the alleged attacks on some of its members at the opening of 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League in Jos, Plateau state.
Azeez, however, specifically made reference to the match involving Plateau United and FC Ifeanyi Uba which ended goalless.
He also appealed to the organisers, state Football Associations, clubs and spectators to assist referees by comporting themselves well for the good of the game.
Azeez called on the referees to be dedicated and discharge their duties without fear or favour.
Earlier, the President of NFF, Amaju Pinnick, said that the Federation would do its best to improve officiating at match venues.
Pinnick, represented by the First Vice President of NFF, Seyi Akinwumi, said that the league had improved when compared to previous seasons.
He added that the NFF would take necessary action against any club or official found wanting.
The Chairman of Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, urged the newly decorated FIFA badged referees to be objective and transparent.
He also appealed to them to see their decoration as a “heavy task” that would determine their career.
Galadima, who was the former NFA president, called on the young referees to be disciplined and God fearing in discharging their duties.
