Foster Chime, the Media Officer of Rangers International FC of Enugu, on Friday said the club was adequately prepared to grab the three points against Akwa United FC in Uyo on Sunday in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League.
Chime told the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu that the players had put their Federation Cup ouster by the Crown FC of Ogbomoso on Tuesday behind them.
He said: “We want to win a laurel this year and now that the Federation Cup is beyond us, we have no option than to face the league squarely.
“The technical crew has spoken to the players on the need to focus on the upcoming matches so as to win the league.
“It is unfortunate that we lost against a team we should not have lost to, but that is the surprise of the Federation Cup.
“Now that our hope of lifting the Cup has come to an end, the players, technical crew and management are doing everything to boast the psyche of the players.
“This is to avoid the repeat of last year’s defeat of the club.”
Chime called on the supporters to put the disappointment behind them and queue behind the club to ensure it actualised its aim of winning the league.
“Our match against Akwa United will be a difficult one but I pray we will smile at the end of the day,” he added.
Chime applauded the Enugu State Government for its support, stressing that the club was determined to be victorious at the end of the league.
NAN reports that Rangers were knocked out of the Federation Cup by Crown FC in Kaduna on July 12.
Rangers and Wikki Tourist of Bauchi occupied the top of the ongoing league with 43 points after 25 matches.
The flying antelopes trail the club from Bauchi on goal difference of seven points to 18.
