Enyimba International Football Club of Aba on Wednesday in Calabar defeated El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri 4-0 in a 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League Match Day 26 fixture.
Ikechuckwu Ibenegbu scored the first goal in the 45th minute of the game played at the U.J. Esuene Stadium.
Chinonso Okonkwo scored in the 47th and 57th minutes to extend their lead, while Stephen Chukwude scored the fourth goal in the 85th minute to take the match beyond the visitors.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Efe Yatere of El Kanemi was sent off in the 70th minute for an infringement against Ibenegbu.
Enyimba’s coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, told NAN after the match that his heart was filled with joy over his players’ wonderful performance.
Ogunbote said: “I can’t really express how happy I am today; my boys played their very best and I am happy that we got our normal three points at home today.’’
The coach however expressed the hope that his players would maintain the winning spirit, especially in away matches.
On his part, El-Kanemi Warriors’ coach, Ladan Bosso, said his team lost because his players failed to convert the scoring chances they had into goals.
