El Kanemi FC of Maiduguri on Sunday beat visiting Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna 2-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League encounter played in Maiduguri.
The home team took the advantage of home crowd by dominating both halves of the match played at the El Kanemi Sports Centre, Maiduguri.
Samuel Mathias scored the first goal at the 36th minute as a result of the defensive error made by his opponent, while Ibrahim Babagida increased the tally in the 59th minute.
Handlers of both teams expressed satisfaction with the match.
Coach Abubakar Bala of Niger Tornadoes blamed his team’s loss on ill luck.
Bala said: “It was a good match, we played very well but we were not lucky to win.
“It is a league, we are going back home to prepare for our next game.”
But Coach Ladan Bosso of El Kanemi attributed his club’s victory to hard work.
Bosso said: “We won because we deserved the victory.
“By this victory, we have reached a stage where we have gathered momentum towards making a great impact in the league.”
He said his dream was determined to win a continental ticket at the end of the season.
