Newly promoted side, Abia Warriors, defeated their more illustrious rival, Enyimba, by a lone goal to become the first club in the Glo Premier League to win an away game.
Abia Warriors grabbed the lone goal through a 35th minute scorcher from Cletus Itodo.
Enyimba signified their intention of getting the first goal, but its strikers could not convert their chances in the early minutes of the encounter.
Enyimba’s duo of Ifeanyi Edeh and Emeka Nwanna were the major culprits as they failed to take their chances as Abia Warriors’ goalkeeper, Joseph Onuoha, was impressive with his saves.
Warriors’ Cletus Itodo took the ball from the half way mark and found his way near the vital area of Enyimba before unleashing a powerful shot for the goal in the 35th minute.
Enyimba, clearly hurt by that goal, tried to make scores even, but Ifeanyi Edeh and Emeka Nwanna could not salvage the situation.
With Abdulrahman Bashir not available, Sibi Gwar, Emeka Nwanna and Daniel Etor were instructed to make sure Enyimba got the much needed goals.
Nwanna was provided with a chance to level, but he could not take this opportunity to get the much needed goal.
Daniel Etor, Sibi Gwar and Emeka Nwanna took turns to spurn chances as Warriors held on to the end.
