The North East Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday endorsed Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as its sole candidate for the party’s national chairmanship position.
The endorsement was made at the North East Zonal Congress of the party.
A motion for the endorsement was moved by Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State and seconded by his Gombe State counterpart, Governor Ibrahim Danbaba.
With the endorsement, Sheriff will be presented as the zone’s only candidate at the party’s upcoming National Convention.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that all other positions in the zone were filled by consensus.
The positions include: North East Vice chairman, Emmanuel Njiwah from Taraba State; Secretary, Alhaji Kabiru Wamba from Gombe State; and Treasurer, Alhaji Baffa Haruna from Yobe State.
Responding, Sheriff, the National Chairman of the party, commended the congress for the trust and confidence reposed in him.
He said his ambition was to take PDP to greater heights.
He pledged to unite the party and carry its aggrieved members along.
