Ekiti United FC on Saturday defeated Prime FC of Osogbo 1-0 in the Nigeria National League match in Ado Ekiti.
The match was played without spectators at the Oluyemi Kayode, Stadium in Ado-Ekiti.
Both teams played well but the home team proved stronger in the defence.
Ekiti United gained possession of the ball and adopted a 4-3-3 attacking formation that helped them to to control the midfield.
The team missed two goals before the end of the first half.
At the resumption of the second half, the visiting team changed their game plan and began to penetrate the defence of the home team.
Ekiti United fought back to curtail the pressures from Prime and in the 75th minute, United striker, Tosin Olabode, scored the winning goal from the 18 yard box to give the home team the victory.
Reacting, Coach Samson Omiponle of Ekiti United expressed happiness at the performance of his boys.
Omiponle said: “I am very delighted that we won the match in spite of playing under closed doors.
“My boys played according to my instruction and that is why they deserve the victory.”
Coach Ayodeji Ayeni of Prime FC said he appreciated the performance of his boys, stressing that though the result was not favourable, the boys tried their best.
Ayeni said: “Both teams played well but the Ekiti United played better.
“That is why they deserve the victory.
“My boys had several goal opportunities that they missed.”
