The Nigeria National League (NNL) has condemned the media campaign of the management of TEAPS Football Club where it made unsubstantiated allegation of inducement of their players by an unnamed club.
NNL’s Executive Secretary, Lawrence Katken categorically denied that neither the board nor management of the NNL has been handed an official protest by TEAPS FC even as he said that official match reports of games played by TEAPS have not indicated otherwise.
The NNL scribe argued that the club’s official who made the allegation has been asked to produce concrete evidence to enable the NNL to hand it over to the appropriate bodies set up to deal with such matters to handle it but they are yet to come forward.
Katken therefore frowned at the decision of TEAPS to make the case a media affair.
He also debunked the rumours making the rounds that one of the participating teams in the league, TEAPS football club has withdrawn from the competition midway.
He argued that it is not true that TEAPS has withdrawn from the league as the management of the club has not officially informed the NNL of its intension to withdraw from the on-going competition which has reached a critical stage of determining the promoted and relegated teams.
According to Katken “a top official of TEAPS Pastor Dan Achebe only recently made a passing allegation that his club’s players were believed to have thrown a match. He was asked to come forward with a written complaint and evidences to prove his case but up till now neither he nor any other official of TEAPS has come to furnish the NNL with any concrete evidence”.
Katken argued that the NNL will not act on hearsay, pointing out that there are procedures to deal with the matter whenever it gets to the notice of the league body even as he disclosed he has forwarded an official circular to all the participating clubs reminding them of the dire consequences of taking such unpopular steps.
