Scot Nnaji, the Head Coach of D’Tigress, the National Women’s Basketball team, said on Tuesday that paucity of funds hindered the team their quest for and Olympic ticket.
Nnaji, who has just returned from the Olympic Qualifiers concluded in France, spoke with the News agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
He told NAN that the team worked hard to qualify for the Olympics but inadequate funding hindered their aspiration.
He said: “We were due to play some international friendly matches but unfortunately could not.
“However, the team gave a very good account of themselves winning one match out of the two group matches they played.
“We have to learn from this unfortunately.
“It would have been wonderful if we had qualified because of the quality of young players we have discovered.”
Nigeria lost their opening game to Belarus 71-60 but defeated South Korea 70-69 and could not make the quarterfinals of the competition due to South Korea defeating Belarus 65-55.
