The Nigerian Medical Association has commended the Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, who was injured in a fatal crash that claimed the life of his ADC, Idris Mohammed, for refusing to be flown abroad for medical treatment.
The NMA said Wada’s decision shows he believes in the Nigerian medical care system.
The NMA, in a statement, said: “With deep pain, great distress and shock, the President of NMA, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, the leadership and entire membership of NMA learnt of the auto crash that involved our respected Governor of Kogi State, Capt. Ichalla Idris Wada, while returning from the Igalla Education Summit.
“While we mourn the extremely sad demise of his Aide de Camp in the auto crash, we are thankful to God for sparing the life of our health-friendly, focused and purposeful governor, and other occupants of the vehicle.”
The NMA also commended the medical team in charge of the treatment of Wada.
It said: “We also commend the medical team currently managing the governor in Abuja.
“The commitment shown by them is heartwarming and exemplary.
“We proudly salute Governor Idris Wada for showing patriotism by opting to receive medical treatment for his fractured femur in Nigeria rather than being flown abroad as is currently the norm among top political and public office holders in Nigeria.
“We are very convinced that if this faith in Nigerian doctors and health facilities is emulated by others, Nigeria in no time will become a destination point for medical tourism.”
