Students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, have expressed displeasure over the strike embarked upon on Thursday by the labour movement in the country.
The organised abour said that the declaration of the seven-day warning strike became inevitable after talks with the Federal Government over a new minimum wage became deadlocked.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Bauchi, Emmanuel Gaius, a Biological Science student of ATBU, said that the strike had already started having a negative impact on him.
Gaius said: “We are supposed to be reading in the library right now and getting prepared for 11 o’clock test.
“Unfortunately, the library is under lock, due to the strike and my mind is unsettled right now.
“As you can see as well, most of the classrooms too are locked down. But we are waiting to hear from the school management soon.”
Also speaking with NAN, Dindah Lumi, from the Department of Education, expressed fear that his time for graduation might be extended if the strike continued.
Lumi said: “I got to school this morning and discovered that there is strike in progress.
“I am afraid if the strike continues, it would affect us immensely because our graduation year would be extended.”
Adam Yahuza, a student of Quantity Survey Department, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, expressed concern that he could not receive treatment at the medical centre due to the strike.
Yahuza said: “I have been sick for the past two days now and I decided to come to the school medical centre this morning to receive treatment and drugs.
“However, I was told that there is strike and I was sent away.
“I am not myself right now because I don’t have any money to go to any hospital.”
Grace Daniel, a Mass Communication student from polytechnic, also told NAN that no lecturer had come to teach them since morning.
NAN reports that all the departments in the polytechnic were under lock and many students had already started going back home at the time of filing this report.
