The National Judicial Council has told the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Aloma-Mukhtar, to inaugurate Justice Jombo-Ofo as a judge of the Court of appeal without further delay.
Justice Aloma-Mukhtar had refused to inaugurate Jombo-Ofo alongside 11 others approved by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for elevation to the Court of Appeal owing to a row over her state of origin and recommendation.
While Jombo-Ofo is said to be from Imo State, she has, by reason of marriage been serving in Abia State, from where she was recommended for elevation to the Court of Appeal.
A statement by the spokesman of the NJC, Soji Oye, said Aloma-Mukhtar deserved commendation and not vilification, for exercising sufficient caution, diligence and maturity in the way she handled matter.
The statement, however, said the NJC has given the directive for Aloma-Mukhtar to inaugurate Jombo-Ofo.
