The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Rotimi Oladele, has called on government to find ways of reducing the huge amount budgeted for on security stressing that the security budget usually militates against the development of other critical sectors of the economy.
Oladele stated this on Monday in Lagos during the conferment of fellowship award of some distinguished PR practitioners.
He said Nigeria needs to do an “alternative cost” to find ways of curtailing the porous security system bedeviling the country and this will lead to reducing the amount budgeted for security.
He emphasized that the harmonization of the proliferation of our national identities will go a long way in reduction of crime to at least 50 per cent because people will have a “tractable identity” and will be aware that if you do the crime, you will also do the time.
Oladele lamented that it is because of too many “identity symbols” that Nigerians carry which them to be ridiculed outside the shores of the country.
Oladele went further to explain the significance of the conference, stressing that the aim of the conference is to create an interface between PR practitioners, track global trends and also set the agenda for the labour market so that the gap between the young graduates of PR will be reduced and groom directors of PR practice.
