The Nigeria Postal Services says it is currently providing more reliable services through modern and appropriate technologies to meet global competitiveness in postal services.
Abdulkareem Baba, the Director, Strategy and Business Development, NIPOST, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, on Monday.
He said that the adoption of automation of counter services, e-stamp, e-commerce and introduction of business centres in post offices in rural areas had improved NIPOST’s service delivery.
He said that NIPOST had drawn up a two-year road map from 2018 to 2020 to reposition its services for global competitiveness, based on its four pillars and 18 programmes.
He listed these four pillars as Reform and Change of Management, Quality of Service, Modernisation of Postal infrastructure and Diversification.
Baba said: “There are some of the bottlenecks hindering the progress of the agency, but with the present restructuring in management, it will give room for the injection of fresh and innovative ideas into the system.
“To be a thriving market-driven serious organisation, you must have a structure that carries that responsibility which is what NIPOST is doing.
“The former NIPOST was not particular in the satisfaction of customers because of the structure and it was just providing services, we didn’t really feel accountable to the customer.
“The new trend of postal administrations anywhere in the world is becoming a profitable business; in fact in many countries they have completely gone commercial.”
Baba said it was a good thing that the Federal Government had agreed to partially commercialise NIPOST.
He added that the move would give room for the agency to explore other areas that could generate revenue.
