Former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has said Nigerian men are fast becoming endangered species as women have taken a stand to overtake in all sectors.
While calling on the male gender in the country to stand up and raise foundations that will speak and defend men, Abubakar called for total support for women.
He said on Saturday at the RAISE Foundation fund raising launch and unveiling of the Cancer screening centre in Minna, Niger State that there is the need to get foundation that will cater for the old.
He said: “We, men, are becoming endangered species as the women are overtaking us.
“Let us try to raise a Foundation that will take care of us at old age.”
The wife of Nigeria’s President, Hajia Aisha Buhari, promised that women will continue to support their husbands in achieving positive results.
Allying the fears of Abubakar, Hajia Buhari said: “Men should not be threatened because women have not taken over.
“We only see ourselves as bridge builders to help the men.”
She further urged women to be supportive in the agendas of their husband, adding: “There is nothing more gratifying than having a woman who is very active in all areas of life.”
In his message, the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, extolled the role of Nigerian Women, describing them as strong supporters and pillars of the country’s political endeavour.
Bello lamented the devastating effect of Cancer, with women suffering the most from its related complications.
He commended the vision of RAISE Foundation in establishing the Cancer Screening Centre.
The Founder of RAISE Foundation and wife of the Niger State Governor, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, called for government and non governmental players to work together in achieving results and to prevent post partum haemorrhage at the community level.
Present at the event were wives of the Governors of Abia, Adamawa, Benue, Borno, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna Plateau, Lagos, Kogi, Sokoto, Kwara and Nasarawa States.
