The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has signed an agreement with the United States of America on the return of over $300 million looted by Nigeria’s former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha, and a former Governor of Bayelsa State, late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
The agreement spelt out the roadmap for the return of the looted fund.
According to Malami, the money was already in the custody of the US Government.
Some of it, according to the AGF, was stashed in the United Kingdom, France and Jersey.
According to a speech delivered by Malami at Chatham House, London, United Kingdom on Thursday, the United States has taken custody of over $300 million of the money.
Malami said $1.6 million and £21.7 million were in the UK, $145 million in France and $299 million in Jersey.
As earlier reported by The Eagle Online, arrangements are being finalised to return the part of the loot traced to Alamieyeseigha in the United Kingdom to the Bayelsa State Government.
