The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, says Nigeria is ready to strategically partner India to evolve methods that will be mutually beneficial to both countries in terms of its Diaspora resources.
The NIDCOM Chairman stated this at the Indian Diaspora Day and World Hindu Day in Abuja.
Dabiri-Erewa, who was Special Guest of Honour at the Indian Diaspora Day and World Hindu Day, believes that India with a Diaspora population of 31 million across the globe, is no doubt good resource for partnership in medicine, tourism, information and communication technology, entrepreneurship, infrastructure among others.
“A partnership between the India Diaspora and the Nigerian Diaspora can positively impact both countries and the world at large,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhay Thakur, said the oversee Indians are brand ambassadors of the country and have contributed to socio-economic stability and development of the country.
Thakur added that Indian Diaspora had been challenged to hit a 1.1 trillion mark of National Reserves in 2025.
The High Commissioner also said Nigeria and India are shining examples of excellent bilateral relations, putting the Indian Diaspora living in Nigeria at more than 50,000.
The National President, All India Universities Alumni Association, Robin Njoku, enjoined Nigerians in the Diaspora to step up in flow of remittances to strengthen the economy as oversee Indians are doing.
The Indian Diaspora Day is celebrated every January 9 to mark the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in 1915.
