The Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation has said that it would participate in the upcoming 7th World Conference for Women in Sports scheduled to hold in Botswana.
The NDSF’s Secretary, Lukman Agbabiaka, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja that the talks would hold from May 17 to May 20 in the Southern African country.
Agbabiaka said: “We have women that will participate in the conference. We want them to show interest in our activities.
“I believe they will learn more about sports. We will introduce female sport in our programme after the conference.
“We need to encourage our women to participate in sports and I’m sure that the conference will open their eyes of understanding.
“We want to create our female national team, we only have a male team at the moment.
“Last year, our Deaf Eagle team participated in the West Africa Deaf Football competition in Bamako, Mali, and won the trophy.’’
On logistics, Agbabiaka told NAN that the body was still finding it difficult to execute its programmes.
He said: “We need support from the government, private organisations and philanthropists.
“Our greatest challenge is lack of sponsorship.’’
