Niger Republic election: Results for Kano centre announced

The Independent National Electoral Commission of Niger Republic (CENI) has announced the result of the presidential and National Assembly elections held in Kano centre on Sunday.
The CENI representative in Kano, Alhaji Iliyasu Sama’ila, announced the result at a news conference at the Niger Republic Consulate office in Kano on Sunday night.
Sama’ila said the incumbent President, Mahamadou Issoufou of the PNDS-Tarayya, got 188 votes to be ahead of 14 other presidential candidates.
He said El Hadj Seini Oumarou of the MNSD-Nassara, who scored 74 votes, came second, while Hama Amadou of the Moden/FA Lumana-Africa came third with 56 votes.
Sama’ila commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for providing adequate security at the venue of the election.
He said: “On behalf of the Government of Niger Republic, I will like to extend its appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria for the support given to us during the exercise.
“We really appreciate the support given to us by the Federal Government in the area of security as the security operatives outnumber us here.”
The CENI representative also praised the Kano State Government for its support to the Consulate and the commission.
While thanking all security agencies who contributed to the success of the exercise, Sama’ila also commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct during the election.
