Governor Sani Bello of Niger State has said civil servants in the State will henceforth receive 90 per cent of salaries as against 70 per cent paid to them in June.
Bello explained that this was in view of the budget support from the Federal Government to states.
Bello, who announced this at meeting with traditional rulers in Minna on Monday, said it was also the result of consultations with the labour unions in the state.
He said: “Seventy per cent of all incomes accruing to the state, the FAAC and Internally Generated Revenue, and 30 per cent from budget support will be given to NLC to pay salaries.
“The 70 and 30 per cents will pay 90 per cent of workers basic salary.
“I appeal to all civil servants to understand the sacrifice we have asked them and even ourselves to make is in the best interest of the state.”
Bello called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to pray for the state, urging them to be security conscious in their communities.
He commended the leaders for supporting government policies and programmes for the development of the state.
The leader of the traditional rulers and Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, called on the people to continue to support the administration to overcome its economic challenges.
“As council of traditional rulers, we pledge our loyalty to ensure this administration succeeds and to overcome the present economic hardship,” Abubakar said.
