Alhaji Ibrahim Adam, Chairman, Nguru Market Traders Association in Yobe State, said that the association has received N47 million donation from philanthropists to support victims of fire incident in the market.
The market association chairman disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Nguru.
Adam listed the donors to include the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, who donated N10 million, and a philanthropist, Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi, who donated N11 million.
He said that two Lagos-based businessmen who pleaded anonymity donated N25 million and N1 million.
The Chairman said that the National Emergency Management Agency and the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency provided 10 trucks of relief materials for distribution to the victims.
According to him, the items included roofing sheets, cement, nails, rice, seasoning, clothes, beans, maize and tomato paste.
While commending the gesture, Adam said the money and relief materials would be distributed to the 441 affected traders.
NAN recalls that the fire incident, which occurred on January 7, 2022, razed 441 shops containing fabrics, shoes, food stuff and used clothes.
