Femi Adesina, the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, has stressed the need for journalists to avoid biased reportage in the build up to the general elections.
Adesina gave the advice in Abuja on Thursday at a Re-orientation Programme to Sensitise Nigerians on the Need for Peaceful Elections.
Represented by Ikhenna Emewu, the Regional Editor of Sun newspaper, Adesina advised journalists to carry out their jobs according to the ethics of the profession.
In the paper entitled: The Role of the Media in an Election, he urged the media to ensure they played their constitutional role conscientiously.
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, advised Nigerians to live in unity.
Muazu, represented by Chinyere Nnorom, the Head of Publicity of the party, cautioned politicians against using negative words in electioneering.
Muazu called on Nigerians to turn out en masse to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to enable them to vote for candidates of their choice.
The programme, with the theme: “The Next President Talk Show on Election 2015,” was organised by the Nigerian Guild of Editors and Living Legends Foundation, an NGO.
