A member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Austel Elumelu, has said he is optimistic the Flamingoes will do well in the FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled for Azerbaijan next month.
Speaking while addressing coaches during their training session on Monday, Elumelu expressed delight at the manner at which the girls are responding to training and fitness.
He said: “I firmly believe that this team will do well at the World Cup in Azerbaijan.
“I have seen you girls train and I’m very impressed with your style.
“My advice, however, to the coaching crew is that they organize more friendlies with boys team as this will help strengthen your endurance.”
Elumelu also praised the effort of the Falconets who defeated South Korea 2-0 in their opening game on Sunday in Japan, saying that they played excellent football against their Korean opponents.
He said: “I was pleased the way the Falconets played on Sunday.
“I have no doubt that with this performance, they as well as the Flamingoes will surely get to the semi-final of the U-20 and U-17 World Cups, respectively.”
The coaches assured the NFF that playing male teams was already part of their programme and that the team will be adequately propped up for the tournament.
