In spite of the proposed plan of the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, to shift the date of the board’s election to a later date, the Electoral Committee has insisted that there is no going back on the August 26 date for the elections.
The Electoral Committee Chairman, Amoni Biambo, in a statement stated that the committee has satisfied the 60 days period before the elections and has screened all candidates and released names of qualified ones.
The statement said in part: “Having received the report/recommendation of the electoral protest/appeal committee of Nigeria Football Federation, we hereby categorically state that Chief Mike Umeh and Chief Segun Odegbami are cleared to contest as President and Member, respectively.
“We hereby categorically state as follows: That as an independent electoral committee solely saddled with the responsibility of conducting an elections into all arms of the Federation as it is stipulated in the statute of the federation, we have given every interested candidate a level playing ground in the executive committee election.
“We also categorically state that the 26th Day of August, 2014 still remains the proper date for the election.
“That the date 26th is sacrosanct as the date has been communicated to FIFA, CAF and WAFU.
“We are mindful of the internal wrangling among executive board members and the football family. The electoral committee as an unbiased umpire will do justice to the electoral process as entrenched in the electoral code to all concerned.
“That the purported/rumoured extension of election time table in some quarters is false and not negotiable.”
