There are strong indications that the Super Eagles may be heading for their familiar terrain in Faro, Portugal, as preparations peak for the qualifying games for the South 2013 Nations Cup and Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Several factors may have led the Technical Department of the Nigeria Football Federation making the choice of Faro, Portugal.
The factors include Nigeria’s long relationship with the venue, relatively low cost of first class facilities at the site and the need for foreign-based players to jell properly with their home-based counterparts in the new-look national team.
NFF’s Technical Committee Chairman, Barrister Chris Green, when contacted over the development, confirmed that plans are afoot for such a camping exercise but added that it can only be revealed after due consultations with the Eagles boss, Stephen Keshi.
Green said: “We are still weighing all options and once we agree with Keshi, then the programme of action will be rolled out, because we have three important qualifiers that we cannot afford to toy with in the next one month.”
Meanwhile, Super Eagles Coordinator, Emmanuel Atta, who has been a constant bench official with the NYSC soccer team in the ongoing Federations Cup championship in the Federal Capital, Abuja, has been achieving results with the team.
Last week, the NYSC stunned all with a 4-1 defeat of Julius Berger FC in a preliminary round of the FCT Federations Cup.
This Monday, the team will take on Prisons FC in a battle for the quarter-final of the tournament in Abuja.
“We have been good so far and we hope to be better and even win the Abuja City Fed Cup, because our players are young, determined and the real future of Nigerian football,” Atta, said, while commending the technical crew of the NYSC side.
