The Nigeria Football Federation Electoral Committee on Wednesday unveiled its plan for the September 29 federation’s election in Katsina.
Muhammad Katu, Chairman of the committee, told newsmen at a press conference in Abuja that the committee would do all it could to ensure a rancor free elections.
Katu disclosed that the September 29 elections was subject to approval by the Congress of the NFF and any amendment to the NFF statutes 2010 in view of the NFF bill before the National Assembly.
Unveiling the electoral committee’s plan, Katu said that the sales, endorsements and return of nomination forms would take place from May 21 to June 4.
According to him, screening of candidates would take place from July 19 to July 23, with the release of names of successful candidates also slated for July 23.
He said: “Submission of protests/appeals is scheduled for July 24 to July 26, while the hearing of protests/appeals will hold from July 27 to July 29.
“The first list of candidates will be published on July 30.”
He said that the electoral committee was completely independent of the NFF, adding that there would be no external influence with regards to the outcome of the elections.
Katu said: “We will try as much as possible to distance ourselves from, presidency, NFF and any other prominent Nigerian that may want to influence us, that is why we try as much as possible to operate independently.
“We have spent our resources and time to ensure that we leverage on the mistakes of the past to have a credible, free and fair elections.”
The chairman said that the price of the form for the position of President, Vice President and ordinary board members would be sold for N350,000, N300,000 and N250, 000 respectively.
On eligibility of the candidates, he said that those vying for ordinary member position must not be less than 30 years, while those for the positions of Vice President and President must not be less than 35 years.
He said: “The candidates must also have post primary school certificate, must be a citizen of Nigeria and a registered member of a club recognised by the NFF.
“They must also produce an evidence of tax payment for two years, a verifiable means of livelihood and such persons must be endorsed by two members of the NFF.”
