The Technical and Development Committee of the Nigeria Football
Association on Tuesday recommended Edwin Okon to serve as a caretaker
coach for the senior national women’s team, the Super Falcons.
A statement by the NFA’s Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, in Abuja,
said that Okon would be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, with Bala
Mohammed as goalkeeper coach.
The statement quoted the Acting General-Secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme, as
saying that the committee made the recommendation, pending the
ratification of the NFA Executive Committee.
The statement said: “The recommendation was made pending NFA Executive
committee’s ratification in view of the two international friendly
matches against the Senior Women’s Team of Japan on September 22 and
September 26.
“The duo will take charge of the team for only the friendly games, as
substantive coaching crews for the Super Falcons, Falconets (U-20) and
Flamingos (U-17) will be constituted in due course.”
Okon led the U-20 Women’s Team, Falconets, to the semi finals of last
year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.
The statement added that the committee also recommended that the NFA
Executive Committee approve for four-time African Woman Player of the
Year, Perpetua Nkwocha, to proceed on a coaching course.
The Super Falcons have been left without any handler since Coach Kadri
Ikhana resigned after the team’s dismal performance at the 2012
African Women Championship in Equatorial Guinea.
