A new political pressure group, the South West Defenders has emerged with the sole objective of defending the Yoruba nation from “predators of whatever platform and leaning.”
The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Lere Olayinka, who made this known in a statement on Sunday, said: “Membership of SWD cuts across religion and political divides.”
The statement reads: “Having brainstormed and planned for over three months on the necessity of a platform to defend our collective patrimony from predators of whatever platform and leaning, the brains behind the South West Defenders have decided to formally inform the public of the formation of the group.
“Our main objective is to defend our collective patrimony as Yoruba people of the South Western Nigeria from predators of whatever platform and leaning.
“Even though we are still reaching out to like-minds, we already have in our fold top professionals, politicians, religious leaders who are tired of the self-marginalisation of our people and the deceits from our political class.
“Already, we have set up six working committees and their reports, which will form our modus operandi will be ready in three weeks time.
“Soon, we shall be unveiling our National, Zonal, States and Local Government Coordinators in a grand event to be held Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“We therefore seek support of all well-meaning Yoruba sons and daughters in this quest to take back our collective heritage from the hands of political merchants, who are only using us to promote their merchandise.”
