The National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the registration of 88,740 Internally Displaced Person in Adamawa, Benue and Taraba States where floods were triggered by the release of water from the Ladgo Dam in the Republic of Cameroon.
The IDPs were registered by emergency and rescue workers after the floods that consumed their houses and washed away several farmlands.
In Adamawa State, which was the worst hit, emergency workers recorded 46,030 IDPs in seven affected local government areas.
In Benue State, 19,505 IDPs were recorded from six affected local government areas, while in Taraba State the emergency workers registered 23,205 victims of the flood disaster in camps that are spread across seven local government areas of the state.
The NEMA officials have collaborated with major stakeholders, especially the respective State Emergency Management Agencies, response agencies, the Red Cross Society and recognised volunteers in the establishment and management of the camps where the Internally Displaced Persons are temporarily accommodated.
Relief materials have also been provided to the victims, the Head, Public Relations of NEMA, Yushau Shuaib, said.
