The Leader of the Senate, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, has expressed shock over the death of the former National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi, the former governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa, and four other people who died in a Naval helicopter crash on Saturday.
Senator Ndoma-Egba, in a statement made available to media houses from his office yesterday, noted that it was high time the Federal Government did a fleet overhaul of the country’s military aircraft.
The statement read, “It is shocking to hear the news of another crash of a military aircraft, just when the nation is yet to lose memory of a crash of a police helicopter in Plateau State few months ago.
“This situation calls for an urgent action by relevant authorities to quickly do a fleet overhaul of the country’s security aircraft.”
“General Azazi was a fine gentleman who served his fatherland with every fibre of his being. In like manner, Governor Yakowa was also a scrupulous politician who climbed through the political ladder, first as Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, and to becoming the governor of his state.
“That the country lost these noble men, and four other promising Nigerians in the circumstance of their death, is most unfortunate.
” The statement also sent condolences to the bereaved family, saying: “The grief of the bereaved families is a national grief. And, in situations such as this, we can only pray to God almighty to console Nigeria, and give the bereaved families the fortitude to bear the loss. “
