Wilfred Ndidi hopes Leicester City can build on the momentum created by their opening day victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Jamie Vardy’s 41st minute strike, after excellent wing-play from Ricardo Pereira, got the Foxes off to the perfect start in the 2021/22 Premier League season and they’re next in action on Monday evening against West Ham United at London Stadium.
Central midfielder Ndidi was at the heart of midfield for Leicester at the King Power Stadium last Saturday and is excited by the prospect on building on that performance in the capital next week.
“I feel very well, I feel great,” the Nigeria international told LCFC TV. “It was a good feeling to get three points in the first game of the season to just give us the confidence to go ahead.
“It was really good.
“Of course, the second half was really, really tough.
“We had a lot of pressure and, as the manager always says, you have to stay in the game, deal with it, and look forward to getting what you can get.
“The potential is there, but it’s down to us to keep working hard.
“It was a really good we could stay in the game.
“We look forward to the next one now and, whatever kind of pressure comes out of it, we’ll try to deal with it.”
Ndidi admitted that he is still scratching his head over Vardy’s match-winning strike against Wolves, with City’s No.9 racing in front of his marker to apply a perfect finish onto Ricardo’s cross.
“I still do not understand how Vards got there!” the 24-year-old added. “Even during the game I was saying to Daniel [Amartey]: ‘I don’t understand how Vards got there and then dipped it into the goal!’
“It was brilliant from Ricardo to get past those guys and then the cross.
“I still don’t understand how Vards got there.
“It was really good, that’s why he’s there, so we move.”
West Ham, though, are next up for Leicester in London on Monday and Ndidi is well aware of the threats David Moyes’ side are likely to pose.
“It’s going to be a tough one,” the former Genk midfielder continued. “We’ll see what we can do.
“We’ve worked hard for it.
“We work hard for every game that comes ahead, so we’ll see what comes out of that game.
“Fingers crossed we can get something out of it so let’s go.”
