A 20,000 gallons per day Solar Water project built by the Niger Delta Development Commission for Kaiama Community, Bayelsa State has been commissioned, just as the commission has promised to transform the National Youth Service Corps Camp in Kaiama into a permanent site.
Kaiama is the birth place of frontline Niger Delta Activist, late Isaac Adaka Boro.
The NDDC Board Chairman, Dr. Tarilah Tebepah, who commissioned the water project, told the people at a civic reception in his honour later that the commission was determined to intervene in the needs of the people in line with the Regional Development Master Plan.
He stated that while efforts will be made to complete ongoing projects, it has also been discovered that developing the capacity of the people is also imperative.
“We will endeavour to complete ongoing projects, but it has become clear that the people can not only survive on roads and other infrastructure but need their capacity developed,” Tebepah said.
Tebepah disclosed that the Commission had resolved to embark on massive employment generation through various capacity development programmes in line with the Transformation Agenda of the President, adding: “There will be massive recruitment programmes. There will be jobs. I have the support of the Board to embark on Mr. President’s transformation Agenda.”
While appealing to all the commission’s contractors to return to site, the Board Chairman said: “If there is anything we don’t want to hear, it is abandonment of projects. Go back to site immediately. If you have any issues, come to us.”
On the NYSC Camp in Kaima, the NDDC Board Chairman assured that the commission would transform it into a permanent site.
In his speech, the Bayelsa State Acting Governor, Chief Nestor Binabo, described Tebepah as a team player and a man of all round intelligence who will surely bring his experience to bear in the discharge of his duties.
He promised that Bayelsa State Government will work collaboratively with the NDDC in delivering its mandate to the people.
