The Nigerian Communications Commission says the inactive Subscriber Identity Module cards on telecommunication operators’ networks have reduced from 51,284,804 in January to 47,985,908 as at February 2015.
This was contained in the commission’s “Monthly Subscriber Data” obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.
The data showed that connected numbers on the telecom networks also reduced from 192,107,641 recorded in January to 190,575,684 in the month under review.
It explained that of the 47,985,909 dormant SIM cards in February, the Global System for Mobile communication operators shared 46,135,318.
According to the data, of the unused 47,985,909 lines in February, the Code Division Multiple Access operators shared 1,665,845.
The data showed that there was a decrease of 19,686 dormant lines on the CDMA networks in February, compared to 1,685,531 recorded in January.
It also revealed that the Fixed Wired/Wireless networks shared 184,746 inactive lines of the dormant SIM cards in February.
The data showed an increase of 2,040 inactive numbers on the Fixed Wired/Wireless networks, from the 182,706 unused lines recorded in January.
The reduction on inactive lines showed that service providers are working to resuscitate dormant lines, instead of accumulating more lines that would soon go dormant.
