The chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Adeolu Akande, has donated a ram and food items to children of the Juvenile/Correctional Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to him, the gesture is to put smiles on the faces of the underprivileged children in the society as the nation celebrates the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
Akande said the donation was meant to call the attention of all well-to-do Nigerians to the plight of the poor in the society.
“Since our last visit to the centre, I have made a commitment to always identify with this category of children who are not as lucky as their pairs who come from rich homes,” he added.
In a congratulatory message to Muslims, Akande admonished Nigerians to reflect on the lessons of the festival, which are faithfulness, perseverance, love and dedication to God, among others.
He appealed to all Muslim faithful to use this festive occasion to pray for the peace and stability of the country.
“I urge all Muslims to continue to live in peace with people of other religions and shun all acts that are capable of undermining the oneness of Nigeria.
“It is only in an atmosphere of peace and love that we can progress as a people,” he stressed.
