The National Bureau of Statistics has emerged as the winner of the Best Public Sector website for the year 2016 and 2017.
According to the bureau’s web content accessed by the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja, the award was attributed to the manner in which the bureau had communicated and simplified its data to users in recent times.
It was also reported that the bureau had recorded increase in the number and the type of published reports on its website.
In 2016, for instance, report showed that the NBS released 107 reports (or roughly one every three working days), over 2000 core indicators, as well as numerous stand-alone infographics.
This was in response to requests for more data, as well as more reader-friendly statistical publications, ensuring that public data is accessible to a wider audience.
The website has unique feature structured along international best practice, to ensure coherence with data consumers’ needs and reliability.
Some of these features include the presence of an e-library which serves as archive to most reports and publications.
It also included data portals and mobile application which could make data more accessible to the people.
Analysts have also commended the NBS, under the leadership of Dr. Yemi Kale, who always break reports and share it on social media, especially on twitter and get feedback from people directly.
