National President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Ifeyinwa Omowole, has challenged women journalists in the country to contribute their quota to the struggle to build a prosperous nation.
Omowole threw the challenge in Bauchi on Thursday at the opening of a two- day training for women journalists, with the theme “Equity, safety and gender-sensitive reporting”, organised by the National Secretariat of NAWOJ, in collaboration with Norwegian Union of Journalists and NAWOJ, Bauchi chapter.
Represented by the National Secretary, Ladi Bala, the president said the role of women could not be over-emphasised in all spheres of human endeavour.
She said it was for this reason that NAWOJ had not relented in training women journalists to equip them with the knowledge that would serve as their tools in their effort at ensuring a better society.
She therefore urged participants at the workshop to make the best use of the opportunity and update themselves on how to best discharge their responsibilities.
Earlier in her remarks, Bauchi state chairperson of NAWOJ, Bulak Afsa, said the training was organized to update participants on innovations and skills that would enable them protect the interest of women in the state.
She also urged her colleagues to take the workshop with utmost seriousness and update their skills on issues pertaining gender equality and safety.
In his contribution, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Establishment, office of Bauchi State Head of Service, Alhaji Tijjani Isiaku, said the present administration in the state placed utmost priority on the training of its civil servants.
He said: “The State government has directed the office of Head of Service to embark on training and retraining of civil servants to improve their skills to enhance service delivery.
“We are working on the module of the training which will soon kick -off in the state.”
