The Nigerian Navy said in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday that it would soon start demolishing structures situated near illegal tank farms and refineries.
Lieutenant Abdulsalam Sani, the spokesman for the Navy Ship Pathfinder in Port Harcourt, announced the plan in a statement.
The statement said the Navy had advised property owners on many occasions to remove their structures near tank farms operated by oil thieves.
The statement said: “The Navy wishes to again inform land owners, village heads and community leaders of its intention to commence the destruction of properties situated around illegal fish farms.
“Anyone whose property is co-located with the illegal tank farms and fails to report to the Navy base should consider such properties as collateral damage.
“The properties will be destroyed alongside these illegal facilities owned by suspected oil thieves.”
The statement further stated that the Navy on May 16 recorded success in its raid of illegal refineries located at One-Man Camp, Bille, KM 45, Idama, Kii, Ikpokri and Ele creeks in Rivers.
It stated that it destroyed many farms used in storing illegally refined automotive gas oil, crude oil and other equipment used by oil thieves in the area.
