A group in the All Progressives Congress, South East Professionals, has threatened to challenge in court another appointment of an Anambra State indigene as Chief Medical Director of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.
The group stated this in its protest letter addressed to the chairman of the governing board of the hospital and signed by Barr. Favour Patrick Nnamdi and Dr. Emeka Aliona, president and secretary of the group, respectively.
The Professionals protested the continued appointment of Chief Medical Directors of the teaching hospital from Anambra State, arguing that it negates the spirit and principle of federal character.
They observed that since the establishment of the hospital, all past five medical directors hailed from Anambra state, and called for automatic disqualification of all applicants for the post from Anambra.
They further urged the board to carefully recommend for the appointment a competent person among the applicants, from any other state, stressing that nothing justifies the continued appointment of only the indigenes of the state to the position.
Part of the protest letter reads: “Due to federal character principle, Anambra state had produced Chief Medical Directors for other Federal University Teaching Hospitals in South East Nigeria repeatedly, and thus, we vehemently resist, oppose and stand against the appointment of another Chief Medical Director from Anambra state resulting from the ongoing screening/interview for a new CMD for the Teaching Hospital”.
” We urge you to recommend and appoint a qualified and competent new Chief Medical Director from any other state that applied “.
