Burkina Faso have lodged a formal appeal with the Confederation of African Football to have Jonathan Pitriopa’s red card rescinded ahead of the Sunday’s final match against Nigeria.
Pitroipa was harshly sent off by Referee Slim Jedidi in the semi-final match against Ghana.
Jedidi showed the winger a second yellow card for diving in extra-time when it looked liked a clear foul on the player, having earlier twice turned down plausible penalty claims from the Burkinabe.
Pitroipa has been outstanding throughout the tournament but will not be a part of the final match unless CAF reverses the referee’s decision.
Burkina Faso won the semi-final match against Ghana via a penalty shoot-out that ended 3-2 to set up a meeting with Nigeria.
