The most prestigious tournament in Nigeria, the National Scrabble Championship, which gathers the best players from the states to compete at the national level from where a national champion will emerge, is scheduled to take place this year in April.
In a statement by the Technical Director of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, Mpaka Jack: “The modalities for the 2012 National Scrabble Championship is such that each state is to register a maximum of six players to participate in this year’s championship.”
Host state will be given two wild cards, while the defending champion has an automatic slot.
Each of the state is to pay a participating fee of N18,000.00 to NSF Access Bank account not later than March 18, 2012
Selection of state qualifiers are to be played not later than March 25, 2012 and names submitted to the Technical Committee of the NSF not later than March 26, 2012.
According to Jack, the National Scrabble Championship will be held from April 6 to 8, 2012 at a venue to be announced.
Format of play: 24 games using AU Pair. 18 rounds of Australian draws (no repeat) and 6 rounds of King of the Hills.
Trophy to be presented to the winner, second and third placed players.
