The Alumni of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State have expressed concerns over the lingering security problems in the country and have resolved to convene “national dialogues” in all the six geopolitical zones to discuss national unity.
This was part of the resolutions of the National Executive Council meeting of the Alumni Association, held on Saturday.
The meeting was chaired by the National President of the association and former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
In a communiqué signed by Abubakar Ismaila Isa, Secretary-General, the NEC took notice of and commended the efforts of governments at all levels, but noted that there is still a need for more efforts in addressing these insecurity challenges in the country.
The association also resolved to prioritise the welfare of its members and institute a Group Life and Health Insurance scheme for them.
It noted the ongoing consideration of the private member’s bill at the National Assembly for the amendment of the Act establishing the National Institute and resolved to make relevant inputs aimed at strengthening the institute.
The NEC also enjoined state chapters of the association to engage their various state governments and other stakeholders on critical issues, leveraging their training and experience at the National Institute.
It also approved the operations of AANI Multipurpose Cooperative Society.
While commending the federal and state governments and other institutions for appointing AANI members into key positions of responsibility, the NEC called for more of such appointments, including board membership of parastatals.
