Fatai Atanda, technical committee member, Nigeria Hockey Federation, on Monday said that the upcoming National Grassroots Sports Festival would be a true test for different sports academies, especially hockey.
Atanda told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the festival was a good foundation for sports development in Nigeria.
He said that the festival was ideal for future national sports glory.
He said: “Young men and women below the ages of 18 can now take their future in their hands.
“The country will benefit immensely because these lads are better replacements if proven good.’’
The hockey official who commended the Ministry of Sports, said the festival was a move in right direction as it aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s sports.
According to him, people in hockey are very optimistic because they have viable academies.
Atanda, however, called on all states to mentor their youths in various sports for national development.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the maiden edition of NGSF will commence on April 20 in Abuja.
